As a spin-off result of the clustering work within the ENMR a draft document of European masters courses in Hard Rock Engineering, Mineral Exploration Engineering and Mineral Resource Management has been developed.

The first meeting with representatives from Luleå University of Technology (SE), AGH University of Science and Technology (PL), and the University of Oulo (FI) was held, in conjunction with the ENMRs European Workshop in Clustering and Industry in Rovaniemi Finland, 30 November – 2 December 2005, to discuss the possibilities of cooperation between the three universities.  It was decided that a draft of possible areas for cooperation in education was should be developed.

Download draft: European Masters Courses in Hard Rock Engineering; Mineral Exploration Engineering; and Mineral Resource Management.

A few years ago the European Commission decided to enforce a B.Sc. / M.Sc. structure in order to increase the mobility of students. This makes it easier for students to switch after the third year (B.Sc.) to another university to complete the final two years of M.Sc.

The joint education concept of the European Mining Masters Engineering Courses gives the three universities the opportunity to concentrate on their respective expertise in the area of Hard Rock Engineering, Exploration Engineering or Mineral Resource Management and to develop into a centre of excellence. This cooperation will also boost the competitive position of Europe with regards to education and research in the field of a sustainable mining and use of mineral resources.

It is proposed that these new masters courses will be incorporated in the existing FEMP (Federation of European Mineral Programmes).

The initiative is coordinated by Patrik Roos of Georange (SE).
